Few days back, I ran into a private collection of traditional floral patterns from the northern region of Bucovina. Romanian peasant blouses with heavy beaded embroidery patterns are worn on important social events.
The plenty of beads is shocking. Manually created, with special care to where each bead is going, and which colors will need to go where, with little spacing between the beads. Imagine the time and patience it took to create such beauties!

What is the secret to recognize an old beaded blouse? It stands in the quality of the beads. The ones that you find these days are made of plastic. When you find a blouse with glass beads, with polished sides, be sure you found an authentic old piece. It’s the type of embroidery which shines in the sun, like a Faberge jewelry.

Those beads were used in the past. They didn’t wash out in the sun, or lose their color. Also, even in the past, the golden shining beads were very rare and expensive. That is why you won’t find a lot of them on a blouse.
This beaded blouse has been designed 40 years ago, it is not very old, but still fabulous.
It is really heavy, with full beaded sleeves and very little space between the rows.
